Until Marsy's Law went into effect in 2008, victims of domestic violence and child molestation could be forced to testify against their abuser or be thrown in jail. Because Marsy's Law was designed to give a wide array of rights to victims, the alleged victim of one of these crimes is also protected against abuse by "the system."
